About
The Story Behind EDO.
Ideas worth exploring. Stories worth telling.
EDO is the independent creative and intellectual platform of Edoardo "Edo" Giglio — author, researcher and storyteller.
Drawing on a career spanning intelligence, international affairs, defence, technological innovation and academia, Edoardo explores the ideas, individuals and institutions that shape the course of history.
Through documentary films, essays, books and original research, EDO moves between real events and imagined worlds to examine a recurring question: how do ideas become powerful enough to change civilisation?
Author. Researcher. Storyteller.
Edoardo Giglio is an Italian-British author, researcher and strategic adviser whose work explores the relationship between history, technological innovation, geopolitical power and the ideas that shape civilisation.
His career has taken him from operational covert intelligence and specialist investigations at New Scotland Yard to advising governments, international organisations and major institutions on defence, emerging technologies, security and innovation. Working across more than 48 countries and four continents, he has contributed to initiatives involving NATO, the United Nations, the European Union, national governments, and the world's top philanthropic organisations bringing together perspectives from intelligence, policy, technology and international affairs.
Alongside his professional career, Edoardo has pursued an extensive interdisciplinary academic education spanning history, politics, public administration, intelligence studies, international business law, space studies and neuroscience. His doctoral research examines how innovation in aerospace technology has influenced geopolitical power, from the Cold War to the Global War on Terror.
He is the author of Tech Tides (Bloomsbury), an examination of technological innovation and its relationship with power, institutions and society, and Stack Wars, which explores the geopolitical struggle for technological supremacy. These works form part of a wider series investigating how innovations emerge, challenge established orders and ultimately reshape the world.
His interests extend beyond conventional academic and geopolitical analysis into historical investigations, speculative fiction and the extraordinary capacity of storytelling to illuminate reality. His work on Narrative Intelligence (NARINT) examines how fictional scenarios, worldbuilding and structured strategic imagination can help us explore alternative futures, question prevailing assumptions and anticipate the consequences of decisions.
Through EDO, he brings these interests together in a collection of documentary films, essays, original research and books. From forgotten historical innovators and the evolution of military power to the imagined civilisations of science fiction, his work is driven by a conviction that seemingly unrelated subjects often reveal profound connections when examined together.
At the heart of his work lies a recurring question: how do ideas emerge, acquire power and change the course of history?
The Name EDO
Edo was the former name of Tokyo, a city transformed in 1868 during the Meiji Restoration — a moment of profound change, when Japan absorbed new knowledge, rebuilt its institutions and redefined its place in the world.
It is a reminder that societies can change, that ideas matter, and that the future is not fixed.
